RESOURCES & SUPPORT

Resources & Support for Dads

Every dad hits a point where he needs something outside his own head: a better answer, another father’s perspective, or real help in a hard season. These resources for dads range from a podcast for your commute to a crisis line for your worst night. Start with the section that fits what you need right now.

Three Kinds of Support

It helps to know what you’re looking for. Information answers questions. Community reminds you that other men are facing the same things. Professional help addresses problems that need training, such as mental health, legal or medical issues.

Free National Resources for Dads

Some of the most useful resources cost nothing. The National Responsible Fatherhood Clearinghouse (fatherhood.gov) offers articles, tip sheets and a directory of fatherhood programs. Dialing 2-1-1 or visiting 211.org connects you with local services like food, housing, utility help and childcare assistance.

For parenting and health information, the American Academy of Pediatrics’ HealthyChildren.org is written for parents, and the CDC’s “Learn the Signs. Act Early.” site covers developmental milestones. If you need help with child support, your state child support agency can be found through the federal Office of Child Support Services.

When It’s More Than a Bad Day

Stress, sleeplessness and money worries can pile up fast. If you’re in crisis or having thoughts of suicide, call or text 988 for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. New and expecting dads can reach Postpartum Support International’s HelpLine at 1-800-944-4773.

If you’re worried about a child’s safety, call the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-422-4453. For domestic violence, the National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233. For ongoing support, see counseling services and parenting hotlines and helplines.
