Programs & Events Hub
Fatherhood programs and events give you two things that are hard to get on your own: time with your kids that has a shape to it, and time around other dads who get what your week looks like. This hub walks through the kinds of gatherings that tend to work — from a Saturday park play date to a teen-and-dad volunteer shift — and how to find one, join one, or start one where you live.

Some events are built around kids: a play date, a craft table, a hike. Others are built around dads: a parenting workshop, a fitness group, a peer conversation. The best ones often mix both, so your child is busy and happy while you get a few minutes of real talk with another father.
None of this needs to be formal. A recurring “first Saturday at the splash pad” text thread is a program if it keeps happening. What matters is consistency, a clear time and place, and a plan that fits the ages of the kids who show up.
Each section below has its own guide with planning tips, age fit and what to bring.
Low-key meetups for little kids and their dads. Start with play dates for dads and kids, then look at local, themed and virtual options.
Ways to mark the day that are about connection rather than gifts. See Father’s Day event ideas.
Bigger outings like adventure days, creative workshops and museum trips, collected under special events for fathers and children.
Festivals, volunteer days and parenting seminars where dads connect with the wider neighborhood. Browse community events for dads.
Pickup games, recreation outings and fitness programs for you and your kids under sports and recreation.
Seasonal gatherings, craft afternoons and traditions worth repeating, under holiday events.
A two-hour museum visit that thrills a nine-year-old can melt down a toddler in twenty minutes. Before you sign up for anything, think about nap windows, attention span and how much your child needs you hands-on.
Our programs by age group section breaks this down from infancy through the teen years, so you can pick events that set your kid up to enjoy them instead of just endure them.
Start with what is already around you: public library calendars, parks and recreation departments, community centers, places of worship and school parent groups. Many run free or low-cost family programming that dads are welcome at, even if the flyer does not say so. Dialing 2-1-1 or visiting 211.org can also point you to local family services.
If nothing fits, start something small. Pick one place, one time and one simple activity, then invite two dads you already know. Our guide to local community centers can help you find a space.
Phenomenal Fatherhood is a Houston-based education, support and community platform for dads across the U.S. Our online community has discussion areas, a forum and recordings where you can trade event ideas and find other fathers. The 24/7 Phenomenal Fatherhood Room is always open if you want to talk with another dad before or after an event — or on a night when nothing is happening at all.
Members can also use Ask a Dad to be connected with an experienced father for peer insight. Membership is $12 a month or $100 a year and includes premium resources and discounts on fatherhood programs; you can join Phenomenal Fatherhood when you are ready.
FAQ
Check your library, parks department, community centers and school parent groups first, since they often host family events dads can attend. You can also dial 2-1-1 for local family services and ask in the Phenomenal Fatherhood online community whether other dads in your area know of something.
Short, active, hands-on events work best for younger kids — play dates, park outings, simple craft tables. Older kids often enjoy volunteering, sports, museums and adventure days where they get some responsibility. Pick by age and energy level rather than by what looks impressive.
Yes. Choose a free public spot, a regular time and one easy activity, then invite a couple of dads you already know. Keep it consistent for a few months. Many lasting groups start with three families and a standing time.
